Iris (Clip-On)
First-Person Capture, Without a Whole New Pair of Glasses
Section titled “First-Person Capture, Without a Whole New Pair of Glasses”Iris is a small clip-on camera. Instead of asking people to swap their own glasses for a bulky wearable, Iris clips onto the safety glasses or eyewear they already put on every morning. The goal is the same as it always was — the platform sees exactly what the person doing the work sees — but the hardware on the face is a fraction of the size.
Iris captures first-person video and audio and feeds it to the AI Perception Engine, so every build, test, and repair is recorded from the point of view of the person actually doing it.
Every design decision on Iris serves one of three goals:
- Comfortable to wear for a full shift
- Works in real lab conditions
- Cheap to build and repair in the US — no tooling required
Comfortable for a Full Shift
Section titled “Comfortable for a Full Shift”A clip-on is comfortable by default, because there is no new frame to fit. Iris adds a small amount of weight to eyewear the wearer has already chosen for their own face and their own prescription, so nothing has to be adjusted, and nothing digs in or pulls to one side over hours of wear. When the shift ends, it clips off.
Because it rides on the wearer’s existing glasses, one design fits everyone — there are no frame sizes to stock and no fitting step before a new person can start capturing.
Works in Real Lab Conditions
Section titled “Works in Real Lab Conditions”Labs are messy, and Iris is built to get messy with them. The body is waterproof and the enclosure is stainless steel, so it can take a splash of flux, oil, or solvent and then simply be wiped clean. The lens cover is replaceable — a scratched or coated cover is swapped, not tolerated.
When a part does get permanently damaged, you replace the part, not the whole device: the outer sheet-metal shell is separate from the internals, so a dented or corroded panel comes off and a new one goes on.
Cheap to Build and Repair — No Tooling
Section titled “Cheap to Build and Repair — No Tooling”The entire design is built around 3D-printed and sheet-metal parts. Neither requires injection molds or dedicated tooling, which means Iris can be manufactured in the US at a competitive cost — and repaired the same way it was built. A replacement part is printed or cut, not sourced from a mold halfway around the world.
Privacy Is Handled on the Device
Section titled “Privacy Is Handled on the Device”First-person capture only works if the people around the wearer trust it. Faces and other personal data are stripped on the device, in silicon, before anything leaves the room — the cloud never receives the raw footage.
